Overview

Established in 1978, Cleveland Clinic’s Sleep Disorders Center was among the first in the nation dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders in people of all ages. Accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, Cleveland Clinic’s Sleep Disorders Center is staffed by physicians specializing in sleep disorders from a variety of disciplines, including neurology, family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, pulmonary medicine, psychiatry, psychology and otolaryngology.

Program highlights for our center include:

  • Multidisciplinary approach from diagnosis to treatment. We take a comprehensive look at each patient to better treat them.
  • Convenient sleep studies. Your physician may recommend testing with an overnight and/or daytime sleep study. These tests can be conducted at one of our seven sleep laboratories, or in the comfort of your own home with the convenience of a home sleep apnea test (HSAT).
  • Personalized treatment plan. Once you’re diagnosed, we’ll design a treatment plan specifically for you. As part of your sleep disorder treatment, your sleep medicine physician or advanced practice provider may recommend a consultation with a sleep psychologist, psychiatrist, otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat specialist), dentist or a physician specializing in weight loss.
  • Innovative research. There are many unanswered questions regarding the causes of sleep disorders and the role that certain factors play into them. For that reason, Cleveland Clinic Sleep Disorders Center staff are dedicated to the advancement of sleep research by using sleep studies to find the answers to these important questions. We perform more than 12,000 sleep studies in our laboratories and mail out 10,000 home tests each year.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. A structure, evidence-based therapy designed to help people overcome chronic insomnia. CBT-I focuses on improving sleep quality, developing healthy sleep habits and managing the thoughts and worries that make it hard to sleep. CBT-I is shown to provide longer-lasting benefits, minimal side effects and better sleep.
