Hello, I’m Leon Yang (楊里祥), a licensed counseling psychologist based in Taipei, Taiwan. I work with adults struggling with sleep difficulties — lying awake unable to fall asleep, waking repeatedly through the night, rising too early, or never feeling rested. Insomnia often shows up alongside stress, anxiety, or life transitions, and tends to develop a life of its own: the harder you try to sleep, the more elusive sleep becomes.

My approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), the first-line treatment for chronic insomnia recommended by international sleep guidelines — more effective and durable than sleep medications long-term. CBT-I targets the real engines of chronic insomnia: weakened sleep drive, disrupted circadian rhythm, conditioned arousal in the bedroom, and the anxious, effortful relationship with sleep.

Our work begins with a sleep assessment and daily sleep diary, then draws on the core components of CBT-I:
• Sleep education — understanding the biological systems that govern sleep.
• Stimulus control — rebuilding the association between your bed and sleep.
• Sleep restriction and scheduling — consolidating time in bed to strengthen sleep drive.
• Cognitive restructuring — shifting unhelpful beliefs that fuel sleep anxiety.
• Relaxation and arousal reduction — calming the hyperarousal underlying insomnia.
• Relapse prevention — a personal plan for future stressful periods.

Most clients notice meaningful change within 4 to 8 sessions. CBT-I can also be used alongside sleep medications when appropriate.

I hold certification as a Beck Institute CBT Certified Clinician (BICBT-CC), with additional training in Gottman Method (Level 3) — helpful when sleep problems are intertwined with relationship stress or unresolved experiences.

If you’re ready to understand your sleep differently and try an approach that genuinely works, I’d be glad to hear from you.
