Dr. Andrew Keenan is a licensed psychologist who is Board Certified in Behavioral and Cognitive Psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). He sees clients in-person in New Jersey, as well as virtually in NJ and other states that are a part of the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT).
Throughout his career, he has treated clients with both a primary diagnosis of insomnia, as well as insomnia comorbid with various physical and mental health diagnoses. Dr. Keenan specializes in the areas of insomnia, depression, anxiety (including social anxiety), and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). He has advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), including CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I), Exposure and Response Prevention (ExRP or ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based interventions, and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
He firmly believes that evidence-based treatments must be adapted to the individual, within an empathic and collaborative therapeutic relationship. Throughout the treatment process, Dr. Keenan will work with you to develop a deeper understanding of your current struggles and what keeps you stuck, while collaboratively developing a treatment plan to create sustainable change.
Dr. Keenan believes that it is important to understand each individual’s strengths, goals, and values, to facilitate the view towards the horizon for what lasting change can truly be. He treats individuals high school-aged up through older adults.
Dr. Keenan graduated from La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA with his Doctoral degree (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology. He completed an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Throughout his career, Dr. Keenan has primarily worked in outpatient private practices, and he also has experience working in college counseling centers, a community mental health center, and a residential facility for juvenile offenders.
